Your data

What we hold, and what you can do about it

This is the plain version. It covers people who read the site and people who apply to be listed on it, and the two are treated very differently.

Who is responsible

The London Companion is the data controller for everything described here. You can reach us at [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL], or by post at [YOUR REGISTERED ADDRESS]. If we are registered with the Information Commissioner, our registration number is [ICO NUMBER].

If you are just reading the site

We ask for nothing and you do not need an account. There is no advertising network on this site and no third party tracking pixels.

Two things do happen in your browser:

  • The trip planner sets one cookie. If you tell us your arrival and departure dates, we store those two dates in a cookie so the availability strips still make sense as you move around the site. It holds nothing else, it expires after a month, and clearing your dates deletes it. It is not used to identify or follow you.
  • The near me page uses your browser location, but never sends it to us. If you press the locate button, your browser works out which area is closest on your own device and moves you there. Your coordinates never reach our server and are never stored.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. Those are kept for [RETENTION PERIOD] and are not used to build any profile of you.

If you apply to be listed

This is the part that matters, and it deserves to be read properly before you send anything.

What we collect

  • The details you type into the application form: your working name, age, the area you cover, your languages, your rate and your written description.
  • A way to contact you, which is a phone number or email address. This is never published.
  • Identity and phone verification records, collected during verification.
  • The date and time you gave your agreement to be listed, which is our record that you consented.

Photographs are optional and the default is none. If you choose to publish any, they appear on your profile page only and you can withdraw them at any time.

Why this is treated as sensitive

Information about the work you do here can reveal things about your sex life, which UK data protection law treats as special category data. That means we cannot rely on a general business justification. We rely on your explicit consent, which is what the checkbox on the application form records, and you are free to refuse or to change your mind.

Where it goes

Your written listing is published on this site and on London Escorts Hub. That is what the consent wording covers, and your listing does not appear anywhere else. We do not sell data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not pass it to other directories.

Your contact details and verification records are not published anywhere. They are visible only to the people who run the site.

How long we keep it

  • Your listing, for as long as you want to be listed.
  • Verification records, for [RETENTION PERIOD] after your listing comes down, so we can show that every listing was checked.
  • Your consent record, for as long as we hold anything else about you, because it is the evidence that we were entitled to hold it.
  • Applications we do not take forward are deleted after [RETENTION PERIOD].

Withdrawing

Tell us you want your listing down and it comes down from both sites within 24 hours. You do not have to give a reason, and we will not ask for one. Email [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL] from the address you applied with, or message the number we verified.

Withdrawing consent does not undo the publishing that already happened, but it stops it from that point on.

Your other rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • Give you a copy of everything we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete what we hold, subject to anything we are required to keep.
  • Restrict or object to what we do with it.
  • Send you your data in a portable format.

We answer within one month. There is no charge. If you are not happy with how we have handled something, you can complain to the Information Commissioner, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you told us first so we can put it right.

Security

Verification records are stored encrypted and separately from the public listing data. The site runs over HTTPS. Access is limited to the people who need it to run the site.

Questions people ask

Do I have to send identity documents to be listed?

Yes. Verification is the reason clients trust the listings, and it is also how we make sure nobody is listed who did not choose to be. Those records are never published and never shared with clients.

Can someone work out who I am from my listing?

If you publish no photographs, which is the default, the main route is closed. Beyond that it depends on what you write, so avoid details that identify you outside this work, such as a specific employer, an unusual combination of facts, or the name of a small town you are from.

What happens if the site is sold or closes?

If the site changes hands we will tell you before anything transfers, and you can withdraw first. If it closes, listings and verification records are deleted.

This page describes how the site actually works. It is not legal advice and should be reviewed by a solicitor before launch.

18+ This site is for adults only. Everyone listed has had their age and identity verified. Listing pages carry no photographs.
